Strawberry Aqua TO Release bright synth-pop breakup song, memories

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES – Strawberry Aqua will release their third single, ‘Memories’ on Friday, December 9, 2022. Optimistic and bright, “Memories” is a rare breakup song for those whose hearts have healed and are ready to move on. An evolution from their first two singles, ‘Last Dance’ and ‘Walk Away,’ ‘Memories’ is the story of growth and newfound appreciation for the one that they loved.

The two members of Strawberry Aqua, Becca Rogers, based in the Washington, D.C area., and Marion Birdsall, a native of Los Angeles, wrote ‘Memories’ in several phases over the course of a year. Days before mastering the song, they made a last minute decision to change a core melody which they felt hadn’t built up to a cathartic release the song needed. They were inspired by the production of Justin Bieber’s Ghost to build a structure with distinct sections consisting of piano, a folksy guitar, a dreamy synth, and upbeat electronic drums. Strawberry Aqua's artistic growth is reflected in the placement of guitar riffs or heavy electronic elements to enhance the emotions of different lyrical sections. Early listeners have likened the production to “skipping through a field of strawberry cotton candy.”

‘Memories’ features a catchy, inspiring hook sung by Marion Birdsall, “Our memories are all that I need, it makes me happy to know that you’re alright.” Birdsall says, “We wanted to create a song that inspired the heartbroken. This is a song you can get up and run to: it’s invigorating and breathes life back into the anguish we often feel post breakup.” Both in the production and lyrically, ‘Memories’ is a window into what’s to come for Strawberry Aqua.

Memories’ will be distributed to Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and most major streaming platforms. For more information, album artwork, photography or to request interviews with the artist, please contact strawberryaquaband@gmail.com or visit https://www.strawberryaquaband.com/

STRAWBERRY AQUA’S ‘WALK AWAY’ IS FIERCE AND UNAPOLOGETIC

LOS ANGELES – Becca Rogers and Marion Birdsall of Strawberry Aqua will release their second single, ‘Walk Away’ on Friday, December 17, 2021. Unapologetic and fierce, ‘Walk Away’ is an indie/electro pop anthem for anybody who is caught up in a relationship they can’t walk away from.

Rogers, located in Washington, DC, and Birdsall, a native of Los Angeles, grew up together in Tucson, AZ and lost touch after high school. During the pandemic, they began writing songs together over Zoom and phone calls. Becca was inspired by EDM duo Galantis' use of the Lydian Mode, which makes their songs sound simultaneously happy and sad. She knew it would be a good fit for a lovesick anthem about a narrator battling with leaving a relationship. The song’s prominent, bright synthesizers, and dark electronic bass reinforce the conflicting emotions.

Rogers and Birdsall recorded the vocals and produced the song in NYC and LA. ‘Walk Away’ features a catchy, emotionally charged hook sung by Marion, “Don’t say you love me like you think we’ll make it through.” Birdsall says, “we hope that the song will reach those that need the motivation or encouragement to take back control of their life and do so with our anthem cheering them on.” ‘Walk Away’ will be distributed to Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and most major streaming platforms.

Strawberry Aqua to Unveil Debut Single, Last Dance

Album Art.png

LOS ANGELES – Becca Rogers and Marion Birdsall of Strawberry Aqua will release their debut single, ‘Last Dance’ in October, 2021, as part of their EP which will be released in 2022.

The Strawberry Aqua duo met in elementary school in Tucson, Arizona and bonded over a shared love of making YouTube videos, sneaking into pop punk concerts, and writing pop music. After high school they lost touch for 7 years. Shortly before the pandemic, they caught up and discovered they were both still passionate about songwriting. During COVID-19, it quickly became an outlet for each of them. Their first song was written in a day, and they found themselves in a studio two weeks later: Marion in LA and Becca in DC. Together they created their first song while having not actually seen each other in person since high school. The process was so enjoyable for the two of them they knew they had to make more. With no intentions or expectations they started writing and recording. Two bicoastal reunions and over a dozen songs later, they’re releasing their first single, ‘Last Dance.’

‘Last Dance’ began as an instrumental electro pop song which Becca produced in New York City in 2016; she was inspired by leaving her hometown, Tucson, AZ for the summer and becoming immersed in the NYC music scene and techno clubs. The song was meant to portray a carefree, escapist feel by layering bright, dreamy, repetitive synths.

When Becca and Marion decided to produce a song together, Marion realized she could help take ‘Last Dance,’ originally called “Always” to the next level and build a catchy chorus and lyrics to complement the synth melodies. ‘Last Dance’ is about someone who believes their partner has lost interest in their relationship, but they’ve decided to give them a second chance to prove that they still care. The simple, playful, idealistic lyrics are easy to sing along with and remember.

Marion says, “The song should feel relatable to its listeners. Most of us have probably felt this way at least once in our love life–that feeling when you think you know what you need, and all you want is that other person to validate those feelings. It’s a lovesick anthem with an upbeat melody that might just make you forget why you were ever lovesick in the first place.”

Becca says, “We wanted the song to be simultaneously happy, sad, nostalgic, and yearning. It’s common to feel all of these emotions simultaneously, so we wanted to make the listener feel this through music. This is a common theme in our music: combining multiple conflicting emotions into one song. ‘Last Dance’ will be featured in a fashion film, Avant Trois in Fall, 2021. The song will be released on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other major platforms.
